【PS5: General】Can I play PS5 games on PS4 console?

Games purchased on PS5 cannot be played on a PS4 console.

However, if a title is available for both PS4 and PS5, and you purchased the digital PS5 version, you may be able to play the PS4 version on a PS5 console by selecting it manually.

If you wish to play the game on both consoles, we recommend purchasing either the digital or physical PS4 version.

[Digital Version]
・PS4 Version: Playable on PS5 via backward compatibility.
* If the title is eligible, you may upgrade the disc or digital PS4 game to the digital PS5 version.

・PS5 Version: You can choose to play the PS4 version on a PS5 console when launching the game.
From the game’s home screen, select […] to open options, then choose [Select Version] and pick the version you want to play.


[Physical (Disc) Version]
・PS4 Version: Playable on PS5 via backward compatibility.
* If the title is eligible, it may be upgraded to the PS5 version.
* Please note that the PS5 Digital Edition does not support physical discs, so disc-based games cannot be played on it.

・PS5 Version: Cannot be played on a PS4 console.
